Frequently Asked Questions
Is 3D-printed meat real meat?
3D Printed meat is cultured meat. It is made up of muscle and fat tissues grown from animal cells and is developed to be indistinguishable from farm-raised meat in taste, texture, and smell. The difference, however, is cultured meat’s potential to transform the meat industry by being more sustainable and eco-friendlier than farm-raised meat.
What types of 3D-printed meat products is Steakholder Foods working on?
We are focusing on 3D-printed steaks, however, our recent collaboration with Umami Meats endorsed us to develop also 3D-printed fish products.
What is the process of 3D printing meat?
Steakholder Foods’ end-to-end 3D bioprinting system contains multiple printheads that work in unison to precisely print cultivated steak at a fast pace, with the exact placement of fat and muscle as you’d find in a conventional steak.
After we have the fat cells and the muscle cells, we prepare them in the cartridge of our 3D bio-printer and design the product we desire with the exact fat percentage as the customer requested.
What are some of the benefits of using 3D printing technology to produce meat?
There are many advantages to using 3d bioprinting such as the ability to control the fat percentage, the size and shape of the product, and the texture.
Steakholder Foods’ end-to-end 3D bioprinting system contains multiple printheads that work in unison to precisely print cultivated steak at a fast pace, with the exact placement of fat and muscle as you’d find in a conventional steak. This provides a huge advantage for producing cultivated meat production volumes quickly and efficiently. Moreover, the printer maintains the viability of the cells.
What types of meat can currently be 3D printed?
The meat we are printing today is beef and fish, however, our printer is built to print any type of meat.
